SAN ANTONIO RAMPAGE!
– no, not how we felt after 5 straight days of rain… But the name of the local Ice Hockey Team; we had box seats to see them win against the Charlotte Checkers a couple of weeks ago. There were some serious scuffles on the rink, and we better understood the phrase ‘ the gloves are off’.
The last few weeks have found us enjoying volunteering at The Clubhouse for 2 or 3 days each week- they are a great group of people and have really helped us feel both welcome and useful.
We had a weekend visit to some members of Denzil’s family in Western Austin- taking in a surprise birthday BBQ, a 5.5 mile walk around the lake/river and quite a bit of International Football. We also found some seriously delicious sausages, something we will indulge in during our final weeks!
On a few Monday’s we have taken part in the ‘Bread Run’ kind of like a mobile food bank for families in need. You never know what food will have been donated, last time there was a lot of peanut butter and fresh sandwiches ( as well as bread, tomatoes, beans, noodles etc) This morning a restaurant had donated big bags of Alfredo sauce ( white sauce for pasta) and fresh Kale….at one house we were “greeted” by 6 barking Chihuahuas one of which squeezed through the gate and ran up the street! You can imagine Lynne chasing after him as he gleefully scampered away, managing to catch him round the corner and carrying him safely back!
The weather is now very warm and sunny, we have to use the air- conditioning in the apartment most days and drink lots of water, or in Lynne’s case: tea.
We hope that you all had a great Easter.
Lynne & Denzil
