Galveston Oh Galveston….
Apart from the houses on stilts and the American accents- it could almost be Southampton! Just kidding, apart from the fact that cruise ships frequent both ports…
We have made 2 visits there in our final weeks: Lynne and Claire set off on a short cruise across the Gulf of Mexico to the beautiful Island of Cozumel- made famous by the coral reefs and underwater worlds filmed by Jaques Cousteau. They were able to undertake some snorkelling of their own using breakfast bagels as bait and managing to spot a Barracuda as well as Nimo and friends. The sun shone very brightly on the turquoise sea and also on their unprotected backs as they snorkelled- cue the aftersun!
Arriving back with many happy memories and quite a few extra pounds…
Then it was back to Galveston with Denzil for our long awaited visit to The Johnson Space Centre- NASA. This was AMAZING: so much to see and to learn about, we saw Mission Control -past, present and future, astronauts in training underwater, the development of robots and the newest space module: Orion… We had lunch in the staff canteen- who knows, we may have been sitting next to a flight commander and we shook hands with a real live astronaut- memorable stuff.
Our three months have flown by, we’ve got hundreds of photos and videos to remind us of our adventure….be prepared!
Naturally our suitcases are not big enough to carry the extra things we have bought, so we’ll be squeezing in what we can and checking the scales.
We will arrive home in time to vote and we’re looking forward to seeing you all soon.
Signing off in Texas 🇺🇸 and sending love,
Lynne & Denzil
